Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to fix the excel read only problem on the free version of AVG?
P.S AVG I selected to 'not allow' on this as there is no way to see the threat message in full and know what it is reffering to.
The 3 different solutions I found don't seem to apply to my version they suggest go to…
AVG Internet Security -> click on Menu -> Ransom ware protection
OR
1. Open the AVG management console and click Internet Security.
2. Go to Settings ▸ Ransomware Protection.
3. Select the Blocked/Allowed apps tab.
4. Click Allow an App, then select Microsoft Office Excel and click Open.
5. The Microsoft Office Excel application appears in the relevant list. Click 'Close' to return to the main Ransomware Protection screen.
OR
Open AVG Internet Security.
Go to Menu ▸ Ransomware Protection.
Click the Protected Folders tab.
Remove all the folders displayed there.
Now select the Blocked/Allowed apps tab.
Remove if there is any path added in Blocked apps list.
See screenshot, I only have an option to disable ransomware protection no settings.

As you are using trial version, please open the AVG Internet Security installed and click on the "Hacker Protection" tab. You can see two tabs "Firewall and Ransomware Protection". Click on "Ransomware protection" and select "Allow/Block application". From here you can see this excel application listed in blocked list. Please remove the same from the blocked list and add the application to the "Allow list".
This should fix the issue. If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.
Hello N A,
Thank you for providing the screenshot. I see that you are looking for the Ransomware protection on the wrong page. Please go back and click on Menu > Ransomware protection. For more details, please refer this article AVG Antivirus: Ransomware Protection to allow/block the applications.
Hello NA,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please be informed that the free version of AVG AntiVirus does not have "Ransomware Protection". Please disable AVG temporarily and check if you are able to access this applications.
To disable AVG temporarily, please right click on the AVG icon present at the bottom right corner of your desktop(System Tray) and you can see a scroll bar to "Disable Protection". Please click on the same to disable AVG Protection and after which check if you are able to access this applications.
n A, Also just to confirm that "Ransomware Protection" isn't available with AVG Free version & is only part of AVG Internet Security have a look @ this webpage (https://www.avg.com/en-ww/free-antivirus-download).
