Hi! A couple months (maybe a couple product updates) ago, explorer scan speed became considerably slower. As it turns out, the culprit is the "reputation services" feature which can be enabled in the Geek:Area settings. Disabling this feature gets the scan speed back to it's normal levels. It's as if each file is first checked against the file reputation database in the cloud, and then it's checked against the virus definitions stored locally on the computer. I think, it should be the other way around - check all selected items against the virus definitions first, and then run what's left of those items throug the file reputation database. It would increase the overall explorer scan speed compared to the current levels.
Hi Zeug,
We're sorry for not being able to get back to you earlier.
Reputation services, as stated allow you to contribute technical information to our AVG File Reputation system. The reason why the scans are slower with it is that through these services your device communicates with our cloud server in order to send necessary information about detected threats and suspicious files. If the scan is too slow because of it, I'd recommend unchecking this option.
Anyways, thank you very much for your feedback about the Reputation services and its influence on scan speed, I reported it to our developers, so they can make certain improvements in the future.
Have a lovely day!
Hi Zeug,
Reputation services allows you to anonymously contribute technical information to help us to better identify malware threats.
We'll certainly consider your valuable feedback and try our best to improve our product in its upcoming updates.
Have a great day!

Hi, Midhun! Thanx for answerring! However, it appears to be that You have confused the "Improvements" section in the "Personal Privacy" area general settings with what it says in the geek:area. Again, querying AVG/Avast File Reputation Database is not about contribution, it's about checking a file, which is for some reason can't be detected via Avast standard virus definitions, against some "reputation" criterion. To me, this "reputation database" of yours looks like some additional layer of detection in cases when your own engine and threat analysts are not able to parse ande properly identify the threat, and thus, all you have to do is look for information whether this threat is considered as a real threat by your competetors. I mean, what else is this "FileRep…" detection about?? Seriously??? It's definitely some extra tactics to keep your detection rates high, by relying on data outside and beyong your systems' capabilities. And this feature is EXACTLY what began to slow down the scan speed in your products, compared to what it used to be before.
