Failed initialisation, AVG Ultimate, General error (0x0643)

Hi,
I've been unable to install AVG Ultimate (Ultimate consists of Internet Security + TuneUp, paid version), and I welcome suggestions!
The device is a ThinkPad E530, 64-bit, Windows 10. Up until yesterday (Jan 2020) I was running AVG Internet Security (paid) on the device, and it also had had an inactive version of TuneUp that I'd tried, I think as a paid version, earlier in 2019 and then cancelled the payments.
My first unsuccessful install of AVG Ultimate got to "100% installed" and then said "Installation failed; sorry, we ran into a problem during initialisation. Find out what might have gone wrong. ( 0xC0070643: General error (0x0643) )"
So, I used Windows "add and remove" to remove both apps, and had another go using  AVG_Ultimate_1827.exe. Same result.
So, I ran AVG Clear to remove AVG Internet Security, and I ran Revo Uninstaller to remove TuneUp. Same result.
Then I ran MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab just to see if there was a problem with Windows. It said there wasn't.
So then I used AVG Remover (yes, the old one). Ran it twice and tried installing again, but with AVG_Ultimate_826.exe. Same result.
Any thoughts?

Hi Nicholas,

I appreciate your efforts in trying to install AVG Ultimate and this isn't the experience we wanted you to have.

On checking the error message provided, there are old traces of AVG files on your PC which blocks from installing AVG.

I request you to search for AVG files in C drive,  App data, Program data and temp. If found, delete it manually and check if you're able to complete the installation.

Keep us posted!

Hi,
Why is there spam from this Hussain Aadil character on this thread? Also, the services he offers are likely to represent a breach of university regulations, if not the criminal law.

Anyway, getting back to AVG, thank you for the advice. I forgot to say “...and before my last attempt at installing, I also turned off Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Malwarebytes. “
OK, as you advise, I’ve had a look at doing a manual delete of AVG files. I’ve also run (again) AVG Remover, AVG Clear and Revo Uninstaller Pro, so I’m looking for files that were not removed, cleared or uninstalled by those apps.
If the file or folder doesn’t contain the letters “avg”, I don’t have a hope of identifying it as an AVG file.
But if I manually delete ALL the files and folders in C: drive that contain those letters, there must be a good chance I’ll end up with a dead computer. Having a computer that works is more important to me than continuing as an AVG customer.
I haven’t searched for all files and folders on C:drive containing “avg”, because that would take all day. I have done a search for all files and folders that contain “avg” within their title, which produces more than 70 results. Some of these are clearly AVG app data, program data or temp, but many of them aren’t.
So .... should I delete folders in Windows\WinSxS that contain the letters “avg”? For example, folders that start amd64_avg.vc140 or x86_avg.vc140?
And how about avgElam.sys in Windows\ELAMBKUP? Or avgSP.sys.sum in Windows\System32\drivers?
I have a screenshot of those results, which I will send you if your messaging system allows attachments.
Thanks,Results of C drive search for files and folders with AVG in the title
Nicholas
