Failed - Network error

I have been receiving the error "Failed - Network error" when downloading some files, not all.  The problem seems to be related to software type files with extension of exe, pdf and zip. I temporarily disabled AVG protection and I still received the error.  When I ALSO clicked on "Disable Firewall Protection", I was finally able to download the file I was testing.  The files are not related to a specific application but rather are files where I've purchased or am entitled to an upgrade and I download them (or attempt to) from their server.  Is there a setting that will allow me to do these downloads without having to temporarily disable AVG?

 please add the website URL to AVG Exceptions list
and  also add the Downloads folder to AVG Exception list,
