Failed Scanning attempts keep crashing

i just installed the Free Version of  AVG  for Mac  and have tried to run the scan about 4 times, it runs for 3 hours each time then crashes.  how do i get it to finish the scan properly ?
AVG  agent keeps sending me these instructions but it seems these are for a Windows computer ?

Any help to get the scan completed ?

I'm sorry to hear about this. Please let us know your Mac version (you can click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen. From there, you can click 'About this Mac') and AVG version which you have installed on your mac computer to assist you further.
