Hello Brendan,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused while updating AVG. Please try below instructions to fix this issue. Reason is there is an AVG installer running at the background.
1.Go to Task manager -> Processes
2.  Right click and End all the tasks of Windows Installer
3.  Now, try to update or Install AVG again.

I keep getting 'Failed to update. Update has detected running installation". It says my web, identity and email are protected but not my computer. Anti virus requires update. I have windows 10 and this is the second time this has happened. I can't remember what you told me to do last time. I deleted my temporary update files and re-updated but that didn't work.
