Hi,

Its actually a paid for version that I have but I tried to install the free version as per the  above link. I also tried to install from my account on line. In both cases, still the error, cant access ms installer.

Roger, Now you've removed AVG & presuming you're referring to AVG Free. Try using the 32 or 64bit install file, whichever suits your system, from this link (http://free.avg.com/ww-en/download-free-all-product).

In order to analyze it please provide us with diagnostic output (gather it right after inducing issue) using this tool and please add detailed description of issue.

Hi,
As of Wednesday My AVG Anti Virus stopped updating. I got General Error. I tried the suggested solutions of altering settings, deleting old files etc. No good. Tried to down load as suggested, got error saying that SVG can’t access Microsoft Installer.  Tested Installer. Its working.  Prooved this by installing another programme that needed it. Can’t uninstall AVG for the same reason.
 
Whats the fix for this. At present I have out of date Virus protection
