Fake Error Messages

Hello Alok,
Unfortunately, that link to reset the browser does not apply to Microsoft Edge which I’m using and which platform we were on when we got these warnings.
As I’m not a true techy, I do not understand extensions to the browser.
Please advise.
Thanks very much.
Lois

Hello Lois,
What you’re describing is most likely just a generic Tech Support Scam page. These malicious webpages don’t actually download any file based malware, they just lock up your browser with an onboard script that reloads the fake alert dialog every time you click on the OK button in order to close it.
This issue might be because of browser cookies/extensions which was added to your browser with your permission which is why AVG protection is not detecting it. If you're adding any extensions to your browser, make sure that the extension is harmless/adfree.
You can reset your browsers (https://www.howtogeek.com/171924/how-to-reset-your-web-browser-to-its-default-settings/) and reboot your computer once to fix this issue.
Cheers,
Alok.

In the last week I have received 2 fake error messages popup online when on the web with a voice advising me to phone this number to unlock my computer.  These are clearly scams, but shouldn't be happening on a computer that is using AVG Full Protection.
Please review and advise.
Thanks very much.

I will help you with the necessary information.
