False positive on Subtitle Edit program - what next?

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion.  The "first one" that I mean wasn't your link – it worked fine.  I meant another link WITHIN the link you provided.  That report link on the page you provided – http://samplesubmit.avg.com – redirects to another but unrelated AVG page.  When I typed it in manually, I get no page at all (see attachment), which I know also makes no sense, technically.

Please try the "samplesubmit" link and see what happens to you.  I'd be interested to know.

Thanks,

bjones

AVG false detection report not available-screenshot

Hi,

I use a program called Subtitle Edit to edit subtitles for movies.  I've been using it for over a year with no problems and no virus alerts.  Starting a few days ago, AVG began detecting a virus called MSIL4.BKIF in the main program's exe file – SubtitleEdit.exe – program version 3.3.8.  AVG disabled that file, and thus the program.

I uninstalled Subtitle Edit via Win7 Control Panel.  I then reinstalled it and AVG again immediately gave me the same alert.

I then scanned all Subtitle Edit program files with another anti-virus program, ESET, which has been recognized for having no false positives by AV-Comparatives.  Results:  No virus in that file.

Conclusion:  Due to a history of flawless operation of the Subtitle Edit program until a couple of days ago, that program's simplicity, and ESET's scan results, I conclude that AVG is reporting a false positive on that file.

My questions:
1.  What can I do to be able to use the Subtitle Edit without AVG trying to delete it, and without disabling AVG?

2.  What can you do to fix this apparent bug in AVG?

Thanks for your help,

Bill, Have a look @ & comply with this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-report-a-false-incorrect-detection). Then have a look @ carry out the instruction in this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-exclude-file-folder-or-website-from-AVG-scanning) until it's corrected.

The entire website was down several hours ago. That link now works for me also using IE.

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

Tried the first one (submit report), but that webpage constantly redirects to an unrelated generic AVG support page.  When I entered the address manually, it failed to find a page at all.  Will try to attach a screenshot.  In any case, that didn't work.  If I can reach the report page, and it isn't too burdensome, I'd be happy to report it.

Hi Bill,
It couldn't work because adress is http://samplesubmit.avg.com (without www) or http://www.avg.com/submit-sample.
Thanks

Bill, Tried link on 3 different systems, Win Vista, 7 & Google Chrome. Working OK on all 3.

Bill, Try the actual link which appears (http://www.avg.com/submit-sample).
