Firefox not working after AVG AntiVirus update

Hello Maureen,

I understand the inconvenience and it shouldn't happen after AVG installed. Please disable AVG program temporarily and check the status.

To disable AVG, right click on AVG icon in the system tray and turn off the slide temporarily. If the issue fixed, after disabling AVG then we need to check which component in AVG is blocking the connection.

Please open AVG > Menu > Settings > Components> disable Each component and check.

I tried to export and import a certificate and for firefox its say
"This personal certificate can’t be installed because you do not own the corresponding private key which was created when the certificate was requested."
Really? I have to agree with my predicessor that AVG needs to provide browser support that allows the browser to accept site certificates and not block them!!!

Hi Tony,

Sorry to hear about the situation.

Could you tell me if you're facing the issue on a Mac or Windows computer?

If you're facing the issue on a Mac, I request you to reinstall the AVG Anti Virus for Mac and check if that resolves the issue. Here are some articles with the steps to reinstall your AVG Anti Virus for Mac:

Hello Bonnie and Tony,

I understand your concern on this recent update from AVG causing browsers to https sites. Please follow the below steps and check if that fixes the issue.

Firstly, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.

This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain "login" and category "Certificates". Search for "avg". You should find "AVG trusted CA". Select it and export it from the menu bar under "File" then "Export Items…". Save it somewhere accessible.

Next, the certificate needs to be added to Firefox's certificate manager.

Open Firefox's Preferences > Privacy & Security tab. Scroll down to Security > Certificates. Open "View Certificates…". Click on "Authorities" then "Import…". Import "AVG trusted CA" and trust it to "identify websites".

You can select "identify mail users" if you want.

If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.

I have the same issue.  Called AVG support team but they would not provide any help.  Just directed me to the forum here.  Been waiting for a week but still no solution to the problem.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it didn't fix the problem.  Please help.

7 months later: still the same issue, AVG updated, FF updated. Both fully reinstalled. And still FF is working correctly only if Istop Web shield and Phishing pages protection. Then its ok. For you, for me not. My browsing is not secured. And you are not able to fix it.

Hi,
AVG popped up to do a 'deep scan', and since then I have been unable to use Firefox:  YOUR CONNECTION IS NOT SECURE.  The owner of …has not configured their website properly…

No websites work.  I do hope you can help me.

Aftere I uninstalled AVG, Firefox worked.  Then I reinstalled AVG, it's blocked again

Thank you.  I’m not sure how to disable, as I don’t have a System Tray, Menu, Settings, or Components - I have a mac.  I did quit it though (but not uninstall), to no avail…
