Hello,
I recently updated AVG. When Web Shield services are turned on, i am unable to use FireFox browser. When I search on firefox, i get the error about certificates are unknown… but when web shield is turned off, i am able to fully use Firefox.
Can someone help me figure out why i cant use firefox when web shield is turned on… is there a way around this? I noticed on AVG Mac theres no way for me add exceptions and such. Any help would be great.
Thanks!
I understand your concern. Please do not worry, this will be a temporary fix and will get resolved automatically in future updates of AVG. Your patience is much appreciated.
Hello James,
Thank you for being patient.
This seems to be because we are adding AVG certificate into the Firefox.
We request you to restart your Mac and check whether Firefox browser is working.
Keep us informed about the status.
Thank you, sorted the problem for me too, but the question must be asked - what kind of testing was done before you implemented the update that caused the problem?

Hello James,
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. We have already escalated this case to our senior team, they are working on a fix. We will contact you with a solution once we receive a reply or in need of more information.

Matt,
I would like to appreciate your extended efforts in this matter. This issue is most likely caused because we are adding AVG certificate into the Firefox. We would request you to try and add the AVG certificate to Firefox manually. To start with, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.
This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain "login" and category "Certificates". Search for "avg". You should find "AVG trusted CA". Select it and export it from the menu bar under "File" then "Export Items…". Save it somewhere accessible.
Now, the certificate needs to be added to Firefox's certificate manager.
Open Firefox's Preferences > Privacy & Security tab. Scroll down to Security > Certificates. Open "View Certificates…". Click on "Authorities" then "Import…". Import "AVG trusted CA" and trust it to "identify websites". You can select "identify mail users" if you want.
I don’t think requiring users to manually import an AVG certificate into Firefox is a great resolution for the issue, at least not long-term.
Thank you for the confirmation, Matt.
In this case, I have forwarded the case to senior team for getting suggestion.
Keep checking this post to know about the status.
Your patience is much appreciated.
I have ran:
"/Library/Application Support/AVGAntivirus/hub/usermodules/020_cert.sh" start

Rebooted mac

Hello Matt,
Please run this command in the terminal - "/Library/Application Support/AVGAntivirus/hub/usermodules/020_cert.sh" start and restart computer. Now check the issue with AVG web shield enabled.
Hi

Avinash, this fixed the problem for me.
Thanks!
running above script doesn't work. received response in terminal:
-bash: /Library/Application: No such file or directory
I attempted to run this script and I get "-bash: 020_cert.sh: command not found". Would love this to work as I prefer Firefox. Chrome works fine.
