Firewall Application blocking - ultimate version

Did you read the part about I dont want you, AVG or anyone making the decisions for which programs have  access to the internet?  which is what turning on "automatic" does.  which is why all of us (as I have now had more time to read others very unhappy about this software change) are stating.  We want control of our systems.  Not AVG or anyone eles.

Either: return the feature as was in all the prior versions of the software or will uninstall and never us/recomend again.

It was perfect in 2016 version why o why did you change it???

Hello Amy,
I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you. Please be informed that 2016 version of AVG is no longer available to download. We have started migrating our customers to unlimited version of AVG so they can cover all the devices with single subscription.
There might be multiple programs running on your PC in the background and files belonging to those applications may require to communicate with internet. If you set the firewall to ask, you might feel it is annoying when every single request must be addressed manually. So we suggest you to set AVG firewall to automatic.

To assist you configure firewall settings, I would like to offer you a free remote assistance. I have sent you an email instruction on how to get connected with our technical support team. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.

I had a "AVG Internet Security" and am currently 19 days from needing to renew when the husband just got a new computer. So went to AVG saw the "AVG Internet Security - Unlimited" and changed to that thinking because the Name is the same it would be the same software and because I could not find the other one anyplace. Now have this Ultimate version and very frustrated.
I can not easily block an application from the firewall…  In the non ultimate version simple easy to block particular applications from accessing the internet. Now…
I found the the …   home –> Internet Security –> Menu –> settings –> components –> firewall –>  Down arrow –> applications Rules  screen (Finally)… but … I just get lost here.
Was so simple… I want to block individual programs.  I don't want windows word, excel and money accessing the internet… they don't need to…  and when I make everything "ask me" the pop up is horrific…just some file name not the program I have to go search for where the file is coming from , what program is it then internet search to see if that is a required file to access the internet (like for windows up date I some how blocked that the first day and to un block had to go in and reset the WHOLE program to ask me again still not sure which ones to block or not block.  This was SO easy in the non Ultimate version.

Is there an easier way I am not seeing? or is this still the flaw that found some complaints about on posts back in Feb 2017?  If they really have not fixed this can I go back to my non ultimate version?  Please?  This sucks.

Amy,

I completely understand your concern. I would like to inform you that on AVG 2017 the option for "allow" and "block" applications are available.
*Please open the AVG user interface, click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components"
*To the right scroll down for Firewall and click on the arrow mark that is on the right side.
*In the drop down you can find the option as "Application rules"

From there you can choose the application and allow or block the internet connection for that application.
