I have a paid version and I am very disappointed that after years there isn't a published solution, or better yet AVG should detect virualization software. It also prevents Netgear's switch managment software.
I am trying to do the same, and having the exact same issue. Has anyone managed to find a fix for this? I have also tried all the things suggested to fix, exception in AVG, adding a couple of applications into the firewall rules list, ticked that box for VM support (not that it really changes anything by the looks of it). I have even added the VM IP address into the whitelist.
Could I get an update please?
Is there any update on this issue?
I have had the same problem as the OP for the past 6 months on Windows 9 with vmware workstation 10.
I have been reduced to switching off the AVG Firewall to allow my VMs to access the internet. None of the options quoted in these support forums works. "allow virtual machines access…" is ticked, my VM ip addresses are both in the fictive and whitelist.
I am very near to de-installing AVG and buying something else.
Hello Patrick,
We are sorry to hear that. To assist you better, could you please let us know if you have free or paid version of AVG installed in your computer?
Thank you

I am running a virtual machine (VMWare) on a Windows 10 host. The guest operating system is Ubuntu. The AVG firewall (I just bought AVG Ultimate) is blocking network access to the guest. When I disable the firewall, the guest has access to the network. The VMWare network connection is bridged
I can confirm that the checkbox that says "Allow any traffic from/to virtual machines supported by firewall" is checked. VMWare also shows up in the list of applications with the green "Allow" status. I have also whitelisted the IP address of the virtual machine.
If I set the VMWare network connection to "NAT" (as opposed to bridged), the firewall stops blocking and the guest has access to the network, however, for what I am doing with Ubuntu, I need the network connection to be bridged.
It appears that AVG doesn't work with virtual machines using bridged network connections.
Any ideas how to make this work?

Is there any further update on this? I too have been bitten by AVG's inability to deal with bridged networking. Seems like you have been working on this for nearly 6 months,

I have version internet security 16.151.8013,
Internet Security doesn't have a Menu, it has Options. Advanced Settings… nothing takes me to Firewall.Customize/Network Profiles. So I cannot follow the steps as you stated. What is the current version?
