Firewall needs to allow my program

Hello Tracy.
We're here to help. Please make sure that the below settings are applied in AVG firewall settings and verify the issue.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Network Profile and change it to Private.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Policies->System Rules and set all rules to "Enabled".\

If the issue persists, please add the application to AVG firewall application rules as described below.

1. Open AVG Internet Security.
2. Click on Hackers attacks.
3. Click 'Firewall options' and select 'Application rules' in the drop down.
4. If you see the application that you wanted to allow or block internet access in the list, select it and change the rules as you need.
5. If you do not see the application listed, click on 'New group', give it a name.
6. Now click on 'New application rule', put it under whichever group you want including the newly created.
7. Then assign rules to that application.

I am running a program that is essential but AVG thinks I am being hacked! What are the steps I need to perform to allow my AVG firewall to remain running while I work in my software? I've "trudged" around in settings and am just not sure how to proceed. I currently have my firewall turned off so I can work. Thanks in advance for helping.
