Mr Shanmugam,
Where is the link to browse the exe file of the application, such as Skype? I can not find it. And it's true, the new version is not as user friendly.
Warm regards,
Jamie
You say add the IP you wish to block , but how to block a program ?
A few programs i currently have installed work fine , but after updating they give trouble .
How do i stop that without knowing any IP ?
It used to be easy by adding the path to the file .
To AVG,
Why would you remove the feature of adding or blocking programs with the firewall? This is a ridiculous move and with that I will not be paying for AVG again and will be moving to another AV supplier.
I denied an app by mistake now I have no option to 'allow' internet access. Is there a way of way reverting back to 2016 version on enabling the app?
I have the same problem here. Ever since the program was "updated" I am unable to modify the firewall settings for individual programs. It used to be very easy with the previous version to go into the firewall options menu, select the program by name and click allow/block. Now I just can't find the option to modify the rules. If the option is not restored, I will be switching back to my old firewall as soon as my subscription expires.
Agree with above. I have added a "packet rule" to allow TCP on port 80 but it still isn't working. Where are "application rules"? I cannot find such a page
Avinash, you wrote:
I certainly understand your frustration and please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused. Please be informed that you can back up AVG settings so that you can restore them. Please open AVG Internet Security, click on Menu-> Settings. On General settings window, scroll down to see "Backup Settnings" and click on it. You can select which component's settings you would like to backup and which one to exclude. You can find the "restore settings" option right beside the "backup settings".
This sounds like a bandaid to the problem. that it will allow the backup to loaded when the problem occurs again.
I am sure that we users of your, fast becoming crap, product want to a more permanent solution.
I am having the same problem as Greg Anderson.
I agree with the other posters. It is really really dumb to have a firewall product thatr doesnt expose the list of blocked and blessed programs form editing. PLEASE fix this immediately.
Hi Master,
It is always recommended to use the latest version of AVG, as you will be able to update latest updates in this version.
The issue with Firewall exceptions will need to be analyzed. We request you to re-install the AVG 2017 version and let us know if the issue still persists.
Thank you.
Hello Master,
Pleased to hear that the issue with Firewall is sorted out.
Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance.
Thank you.
Just did a manual update. have the may 12. version 17.4.314
option does not show.
Agree with most people here that leaving an option out, specially for those who have "mild" auto add function and regret later on they've let the app slip thru and can't reverse this, is a serious complaint not to be taken with the low level of replies I've seen here. As shown the option is back for the UK community. (You're taking Brexit too serious my friends)
Even freeware firewalls have this option…
They want it back, I want it back, re-instate the option asap for all languages and versions.
Take care!
Does anyone know of an antivirus software that provides customized control on individual programs more like the previous AVG version?
Had to uninstall the AVG firewall due to it blocking several programs and when I went into the settings and add the programs it still blocks them. Changing it from what it was in 2016 was a HUGE mistake. Using windows Firewall now, thanks AVG.
Hello Master,
We request you to collect the diagnostic information with the instructions we have given before.
Once we received the logfiles, we will be able to analyze it and fix this issue.
Thank you.
Hello Nick,
We regret to hear about the inconvenience caused. Could you please tell us the name of AVG program you are using? Also please tell us the version of AVG installed in your computer, so that we can check and help you.
Thank you.
Horst,
To analyze the issue further, I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs.
I have sent you an email with steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.
ive had countless issues now with the new avg program update,
it fudged up our fedex shipping system, our cad/cam communication link to our mill,
and my local FTP site
this bit about not bing able to manage exclusions in the firewall in or out or blocking is obsurd,
*(i know most of the kids use it to block "phone home" requests f4rom bootleg software)
but for internal networking this causes an issue, as well as the network profile switching, when you have more than one deticated connection , ie. equipment,
further more, i can no longer allow my FTP site through the firewall on this system,
needless to say the program update was frustrateing, alot of man hours,
ive retaled AVG for 5 years at a repair shop before my current employment in IT , AVG is solid and presents a good score on the VIRUS BTN 100, reactive. proactive tests,
as well as the phone customer service,
in current news, AVAST has purshased AVG and Preform (CCleaner)
AVAST and AVG use the same deffinition library with difftrnt suites,
i beleve i will be cancleing my subscription to avg internet security for our 20 system network,
i know avast still has this option in there firewall,
and i feel AVG has wasted a countless ammount of my personal man hours fighting network issues, that otherwise would have been resolved with the previous settigns,
im not sure if you can or are able to answer this,
when will avg present this feture?
if not with in the next 20 days, a 8 year AVG patron and previous retailer, is going to move to the newer parent company , i would rather not, but the sevarity of the current dractic changes are truly leaving me to conclude this is not longer cost effective and is actually deminishing returns at this point becasue of tencial issues that had no reason to change .....
I am a software developer and use certain tools to connect to client server databases. All has been fine until I was "upgraded" to AVG Internet Security 2017! This new version SUCKS! I now get 10060 API on "connect" errors when I try to connect to the client server data on my own development machine! I know it's AVG because if I turn off AVG, it connects perfectly...like it did last week! The data management application itself runs and it does connect to other servers but will not connect to the client server data on my own development machine. I tried checking packets, etc. but it makes no difference. I can only assume it's not opening the port on the specific IP address but even though I added the port and the IP address in Firewall packets, it still doesn't work (192.168.1.165...ports 12010/12011).
Now I have to risk the security of my computer while I turn off AVG so I can back up the data and meta data for each of my software products so I can restore them on another server on my network which AVG allows (for some reason!
My subscription was supposed to renew on May 20, 2017 but I just cancelled my subscription. I can't "wait for the next update" as all the AVG support people here have request us to do. I stand to lose too much in the interim. To not allow an older version to be downloaded and used is nothing short of ludicrous! I have referred scores of my clients to AVG in the past six years. I will make certain to advise them to shop around the next time their subscription comes due. To put out a faulty product, which does not allow configurations needed, and not allow us to go back to a previous version is insane!
Goodbye AVG!
Hello Nick,
No problem, that's okay. We can see that you have installed 2017 version of AVG Ultimate. Please change the Firewall settings and check whether you can access the application or not. Please follow the instructions to change the Firewall settings : Open AVG Zen -> Internet Security -> Click on "Menu" in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> Change the networks from "Public" to "Private" (If it is in "Private", change it to "Public")
Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
As Hector Curi mentioned, it would seem that the option to block a specific application/program is still there, its just a bit harder to find. Here are the steps on how I personally did it:
- Select Internet Security
- Click "Menu" on the upper right corner and then click on "Settings"
- Click on "Components"
- Click on "Firewall" in order to expand it and get a short description and a few more options (Uninstall Component, Network Connections, Firewall Logs and Application Rules)
- Click on the "Application Rules" option within the Firewall drop down.
- Click on the "New Group" option and name it what you want.
- Right click on the new group you created and select "New Application Rule". This will open a window for you to browse for the program you wish to create a rule for.
- Once you have selected your application/program, click on its "Packet Rules" option.
- Change its "Internet Out" action to "Block" as well as the "Default Rule" Action.
- Done
Hope this helps!
