setting the network connected to the computer to provate instead of public fixed the issue. This is for the actual computer who setup the networked drives. For example john created 2 shared drives for steve and jose to connect to. only configure the settings mentioned on john computer.

Have you installed latest version(2017) of AVG Internet Security unlimited devices in your computer?
If so, please follow the below instructions to allow your network connection.
1: Click on Settings.
2: Select Components.
3: Click on the option Firewall.
4: Select Customize.
5: Click on policies o n your left side of AVG Interface.
6: Select Packet Rules.
7: You will get the window with default mapping of your protocol.
8: Scroll Down till to the and you will find the option to allow/block your protocol.
9: Add your IP that you wish to add/block
Once it configured, try to check for the issue. If the issue persist please get back with us we are here to help you.

There used to be add/delete buttons
Since updating I cannot access my network drives unless I turn the firewall off. The whitelisty contains the range of IP addresses.

In this case Please open AVG and go to Menu->Settings->components->Firewall->customize->select network settings and change the connection to private.
