Thank you.
I apologize if this question has been asked already, but I just can't seem to find an answer or an answer that doesn't mean reformatting and reinstalling everything. If this question is already out there, please point me in the right place.
I have a Windows 10 computer and I have been having issues with upgrading from Update 1803 to 1809. I know that the 1809 update got pulled around Oct 5th (a couple days after its release). So I just waited like everyone else, until MS re-released the new 1809 update. I tried updating again after MS released it again, but I couldn't get the 1809 update to install completely. It would get to 52% installed, pops up with a message "windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows restart the computer and then restart the installation", then the computer restarts and goes through the process of undoing the update. For this update issue, I will probably just wait until MS finally fixes the problem "again". I can't imagine my computer is the only one that is having this issue.
I tried troubleshooting the windows update, looking online for help, but everything I tried would still do the same thing through the update. I finally came across a site that had a fix Windows utility program. It looked like a very helpful website, and I read some good reviews about it. So I downloaded the file and installed it on my computer - I know - very stupid!! I know better or at least I should know by now. This is where I got the file "https://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-fix-windows-updates-with-fix-wu-utility". After I installed the program, I get blocked from several key "applications" (like Device Manager, Disk Management, Computer Management & more). It comes up with the following dialog box "User Account Control - This app has been blocked for your protection. An Administrator has blocked you from running this app. For more information, contact the administrator. mmc.exe Publisher: Unknown File Origin: Hard drive on this computer Program location: "c:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe" C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc"
Show information about the publisher's certificate (click on it and it does nothing)
I have run anti-virus programs and have come up with nothing - so I think it just changed items in my windows setup to block these and other areas.
I am unable to do a system restore, because the system restore points are possibly corrupted and won't finish. My login name is an administrator and always has been, but I am just unable to access these areas directly anymore. I know that I can access these areas by opening a Command Line/Windows Powershell (Admin), then typing the following devmgmt.msc, diskmgmt.msc, and compmgmt.msc to get to those areas. I was just hoping to get my computer back to the way it was before I F'D it up.
If you have any suggestions on fixing this problem, I am definitely open to trying them at this point. I really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!
PS Sorry for the novel.
