I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your efforts. Please repair AVG setup once and then try to download the updates.
To repair your AVG please follow these instructions:
Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select AVG AntiVirus Free in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.

I should have said I already tried repairing , which said it worked , but it still needs updating …
I also did a windows update and restarted the computer , still needs updating
I now have an exclamation mark , on my messages , saying a newer version is available …
It wasn't there before
I do not have any current subscription …
Is there a way to fix the update problem on the free version please ?

That's news to me , how do I find what I have with AVG and I do not have a license number ?

I had the full AVG and have dropped back to the free version about a year or so ago …
It says It needs to update now … I click on it and it opens a new box with 2 sections ,
1 is Virus definitions and one with Programs …
Both have update next to them and a green ok at the bottom.
I have tried over and over to update … Each time it now says both are up to date ,
But I still have Update Now in red and an exclamation mark saying update now …
Any ideas how to get it back to normal ?
