Geting rid of 'ghost' notifications

Am using AVG on Mac. Program keeps identify same mail attachments (2 of them) as being infected. I click telling the program to Protect, and 10 seconds later the same files appear. This happens again and again, always with the same 2 files. I was able to actually find them buried in the Mail downloads folder and removed and secure trashed them from the system, but AVG continues to find them, now in folders that no longer exist.

Very annoying. Short of quitting AVG, how do I get the program to stop annoying with repeated notifications of what are now 'ghosts'?
