Very frustrating, and don't know why I'm getting the message.  Says I'm protected, but User Interface won't open, so I can't do a scan.  This has been going on for at least a couple of weeks now.  Have been with AVG for years, and have never had a problem.  help please.  Thanks,  Ed

. After restart, run AVG Remover and remove all other supported products and remnants of AVG (ZEN, Framework,…).

Open AVG_Remover.exe (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe)
User Account control - click "Yes"
Click "CONTINUE"
Select all products, and click "Remove"
Click "Restart" and restart PC
If is displayed dialog window (Open file – Security Warning) after restart, click "Run" and let AVG Remover remove traces
If is AVG Remover asking for restart PC, restart PC again

Note: Once the removal of AVG is complete, go to C Drive and delete the AVG remover folder. After which you can install AVG AntiVirus free from this link. http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-Free

I tried several times to install latest Visual C++ file as you suggested, but keep getting message, "Setup Failed."
