Gmail becomes unresponsive in Chrome due to AVG AntiVirus Free

Sorry, this does not fix the problem.  And neither does removing AVG and installing again as I had to do this last week for another problem.  The only solution at present is to switch off 'Online Shield' which sort of defeats the purpose.  Not happy with AVG on Windows.

Basically, I access gmail via my Chrome browser.  Gmail becomes unresponsive every few minutes to the point that a Chrome dialogue box asks me if I want to 'Kill' or 'Wait'.  The only solution to this is when I switch off AVG AntiVirus.

Having incompatible AntiVirus to Gmail is a non-starter.  I'm assuming there is a simple fix but Googling 'AVG unresponsive gmail' hasn't provided the answer.

It's really slowing my productivity so a solution would be nice.

thanks
