We would like to understand more about the situation.
Please share the screenshot http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot of that site where you receive the notifications. Have you initiated a scan using AVG and checked the status?

Somehow the extension for Google Chrome was changed so instead of GC some lookalike site promoting merchandise would come up.   How did this happen and why didn't AVG stop it?
