You could try to reset AVG app to resolve the issue. To do so, navigate to the location mentioned below.
Device Menu -> Settings -> Apps/Application Management -> AVG Antivirus -> Tap on clear cache and clear data -> Force stop the app once.
Message received that virus,definition is outdated…I press refresh but seems same on screen. Just updated to Pro Version a few minutes ago. How do I resolve this? Seems odd

Naomi, this is a followup regarding the virus definitions out of date on AVG for Android. Our developers are aware of this and confirmed an update will be released soon with a fix. Meanwhile, I ensure your device is protected and request you to keep the auto-update of apps is enabled in Google play store. Click on this link https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/113412?hl=en for instructions to enable it if you have not already.
Once the fix is rolled out, you will get a notification and the AVG app will be updated automatically. After updating AVG app, restart your device and check for the status.
