"Hacker Attacks" section showing "Not Protected" since update to version 18.3.3051

Hello,
I really appreciate your hard work and effort in resolving this issue. I'll forward your suggestion/feedback to concern team. You can also submit a product feedback form (open AVG protection > Menu > about > submit feedback), it will reach to our development team and they will definitely look into your suggestions/feedback.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hello Gary,

We appreciate your efforts. Try to restart firewall service and check if it helps.

Open Run command by pressing windows and R key simultaneously, type " services.msc " and press enter.

Click on AVG Firewall and restart its service from left pane. Restart your device and check with it.

I had the same problem on the 3rd of March 2018 and also today. The first time it happened Avg removed and re-installed the Avg Programe. This worked until today. This time Avg reacitvated my Avg programe instead of un-installing and re-installing. I was told there is a Sychronization problem and reactivating the product seems to have fixed the issue, for now. I have been assured this issue is being looked into.

My AVG (Internet Security) installation auto-installed the latest update (18.3.3051) two days ago, and then required a reboot. As it was not convenient to do so at that time I used the 'postpone' option and rebooted the machine late last night.

After restart the AVG shows the 'Hacker Attack' item as red and marked 'Not Protected'.

If I click on it and then on the red button in that item, the upper part turns green but the button does not 'slide' over, and stays as a red dot - If I go back to the main screen it still shows all in red and marked 'Not Protected' - if I click it again from there,  the button is still shown as a red dot and I find that the part of the display that had previously turned green has reverted to red.

I then shut down the machine. On starting it today this situation remains.

Anyone know what I need to do?

I could provide screenshots but have no means currently of hosting the images - is there any other way of including images in a post here?

OS is Win 10 64 bit - Windows Update Checker shows 'Up to date"

Hello Ranjani,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I think I did mention - oh, yes looking at my original post see I definitely did remark that I had rebooted at least once since this problem manifested itself  - so therefore I fail to see what stopping and re-starting a service could possibly achieve, you are clearly unaware (so it seems) that when one shuts down or re-starts a machine - all the services are in fact shut down and re-started - Who Knew!!! Well, the fact is that a lot of people know.

These are the facts of the solution as I found them to be: expecting not very much in response to my post, after about an hour had passed after I made it I uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it, before doing so I exported my settings using the export option provided.

After spending a long time actually uninstalling it - because neither the AVG Windows control panel based uninstaller nor the downloadable 'Removal Tool' actually get rid of all the settings - so I had to follow up doing that 'by hand' - I then re-installed AVG and it was fine. The problem had gone.

I then created a new 'settings export' - without having made any changes to settings in the new AVG installation- and then I imported the settings that I'd exported before uninstalling - and the PROBLEM CAME BACK,

As I had fortunately saved the 'Vanilla' settings of the new install before importing the settings from my previous install I was able to re-import those and the problem went away again!

The downside for me is that I have had to spend the last hour aand a half manually resetting all the settings that I now cannot import because AVG (to coin a phrase) 'Bricks itself'.

There is clearly a bug in version 18.3.305 that means that one (or more) settings made in a previous version - if set to some specific value - causes this to happen -  I've solved it the laborious way - this forum and AVG direct support may well get more queries on this issue - as it is highly unlikely, given the facts,  that I am the only customer that is going to be affected by this problem.

Hello Allan,

I apologize for the inconveinence. I would request you to contact our chat technical team using this link Contact AVG Support - AVG Phone Number, and Chat Support
 for further assistance.

Given this problem seems to have been caused by AVG's update, is there a solution to it yet?

Hello Mel,
May I know if you're experiencing issues with AVG Hacker component? If possible, could you share a screenshot of the AVG Internet Security user interface to assist you further?
You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

Having wasted my time already accomodating this latest in the long line of AVG cock-ups since it went from being a great product to a liability (after the 2107 'upgrade') plus the dozy 'advice' given in the initial reply to my current post I will certainly NOT be double posting elsewhere - the information is here. You have said you've forwarded it - why should I need to do anything else? After all, I'm paying AVG for this product - not the other way around!!

I'm just waiting until my AVG subscription expires and I move (without wasting money) to a different product that isn't as flakey as AVG now is - I'm just counting the days mate! Not long now.
