Hard disk rattling

Dear Santhosi

Before re-installing AVG there is one more problem to be solved: At the start-up of my computer I now have a multiboot screen, giving me the opportunity to select Windows10 or three identical versions of AVGClean.
I would like to get rid of this multiboot screen and just enter Windows10 at start-up, like I used to do before having run AVGClaen.

cordially

Jacques

We're glad to help you with this, Jacques.
From your message, we see that AVG Clear has been included in the boot method of your computer incorrectly. This isn't the usual behavior.
However, we'll be able to remove it from the boot options by following the below steps :
Choose Windows 10 (normal) at boot up to login to your computer - Once logged in, type msconfig in runline command (Press windows logo key & R key together to get run line command) - System configuration window will open - In that window, click on Boot tab - AVG Clear would be listed - Select it & click on Delet button - Restart your computer & check.
Please try the above step & let us know if it helps.
At unpredictable moments, but quite often at the start-up of my computer, my harddisk starts rattling, sometimes for hours, while AVG is the application that consumes most hard disk resources. When the AVG demand for hard disk resources drops, then the disk behaviour becomes normal again. This is particulary disturbing because when AVG is in full charge of my hard disk, internet becomes unavailable and other applications become incredibly slow. Again, when AVG stops using virtually all hard disk resources, everything becomes normal again. I have Windows 10 and use no other virus protection than Defender.

Thank you for sharing the screenshots, Jacques.

I would suggest you to run AVG Clear and AVG Remover tools to delete old traces of AVG and monitor the status of your hard disk.

Dear Sarath
Here are my findings. Perhaps it will help you. I launched AVGClaer. After a while it asked me to allow the program to restart in a simple protected mode. I answered three times YES, but the program AVGClaer was not able to restart the computer in the desired mode. Then I decided to run AVGClaer in the normal mode, which worked. I suppose all the AVG-files are gone, since I see no trace whatsoever of any AVG presence. Then I had to restart the computer, which I did. I then had the choice to restart Windows10 or three versions of AVGClear. I think that these were the three times I tried to make AVGClaer restart in the simple mode, which it couldn't. But after a manual restart I could opt for a restar that was promised but never executed by AVGClear. But as all the traces of AVG already seemed to have been removed, I have choosen for the normal Windows10 start. So there is something wrong with the restart inside the AVGClear-program. It doesn't restart in the simplest mode, as promised. The user must shut down, and then there is an option in the startup routine to choose for either Windows10 or AVGClear, presumably in the simplest mode. I didn't know this. I supposed AVGClaer did the startup in the simple mode all by itself, but in my case I had to shut down and the make a restart and then opt for AVGClear. Anyway, there seems to be no AVG-files left and the disk is no almost completely silent. What a relief !!  I don't know if this will last forever. But my only anti-virus now lays in the hands of Windows Defender. For the moment it is clear that AVG was the application that was extremely disk-resource hungry.

Jacques, we are sorry to hear this.

Please accept our apologies for the difficulty you have experienced.

Since the hard disk usage is normal again. Let us reinstall the AVG and check for the usage again.

Please share us the screenshot of the usage, if it is high again.

Regarding the AVG Clear, it should be restarting the computer in normal mode.

However, in your case it hasn't be the same. So, we will forward the feedback to our concerned team.

We appreciate your efforts.
