Thanks Alan,
I continued to poke around and found a link to the AVG removal tool that was different than the first one I tried. This one opened up in the CMD window and ran right away and worked. I then reloaded AVG and it installed and is working. Thanks.

Have message "No Active Components". Tried "download and repair", got error 0XC0070643, MSI engine failed to install. Tried Uninstall, got "AVGIDSAgent could not be deleted, error code same as above. Downloaded the AVG Removal Tool, started it and it has been sitting for hours on one screen that says "Downloading Updates". 
Hours and hours on that screen. (This all started after a scan and AVG trying but failing to get rid of Trojan "Poweliks". Thanks for any help you could offer.
