Having issues opening current AVG and installing new version of AVG

Hello Eric,
We will help you sort it out. The issues might be because of old/previous AVG traces.
In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Antivirus Free.
Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install AVG Antivirus Free.

Hey, i have a windows 7 home premium computer that i have had for some time and recently wanted to start using again. It currently has AVG 2012 installed on it. I am experiencing an issue where it does not let me open the program, i double click the icon and nothing opens. I thought maybe downloading the new (updated) avg 2019 might be the solution, but after downloading it, i tried to open the avg_antivirus_free_setup.exe but i got a message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them." even though i am the administrator and have the permissions. I was wondering if someone can please help me out with this problem. Thank You

Eric, please boot your PC in safe mode (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=How-to-reboot-your-computer-into-Safe-Mode) and try to run the tools.

NOTE: Run AVG Clear tool first.

Just downloaded the avg_remover.exe and avg_clear.exe, saved the files on my desktop, but i double click on the .exe files but nothing opens.
