Hi Sreenu - last night I closed all programs, restarted my laptop and then ran the defrag process again. I also changed power settings so that the laptop didn't go to sleep.
this morning after 9hrs it is still showing 'Optimising' and the spinning wheel which I assume means it is incomplete again and from an earlier comment I would assume 9hrs should be long enough to complete the process.
Any suggestions?
Hi Bob,
We're glad to look into this & help you.
From your description, it seems that the Disk defrag process is stuck.
Usually, the process might take time, depending on the size of your hard disk. However, it shouldn't take 18 hours. You can close the program & restart the Disk Defrag process.

Firstly, sorry if this in the wrong section π
I have AVG Tuneup and after a recent scan it suggested that I needed to optimise my HD.
I started the Disk Defrag as guided and after 4hrs it was still running and I needed to go to bed. In the morning I awoke my laptop to see it was still optimising with a spinning wheel. It has now been running for 18hrs+ and I need to use my laptop for work.
Can I cancel the defrag (I donβt see any option to stop this part way through) or can I continue to use my machine as normal whilst it is running?
Thanks in advance
Appreciate your efforts, Bob.
As this isn't the usual behavior, we'd suggest you to reinstall AVG TuneUp once to check if it helps.
Thanks for the reply Dinesh.
I've closed AVG now and restarted my laptop. Will work as normal today and then try again overnight, but I'll change the power settings so my laptop doesn't go to sleep after a period of inactivity.
Thank you for writing back to us, Bob.
You can close the AVG TuneUp program and also restart your laptop.
After that, please try to run the Disk Defragmentation process and then check if it helps.
Thank you and keep us informed.
Thanks for the reply Dinesh. Do you mean just close the AVG program?
For info my HD is 1Tb but only about 250Gb is used.
