This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
I request you to uninstall and reinstall the application and check if you are still facing the same issue.

For the last 3 days I have been having 30-50% CPU usage by the AVG Cleanup Service. What is the remedy for this?
