Hi Alan,
No luck so far.
I have continued trying answers from MS answers and many Google answers but with no luck.
The laptop is getting older about 7 years and Vista won't be supported much longer and I have all my data off it; so it may have to be retired.
If you have any advice it would be appreciated but I understand it is probably is not a AVG/virus issue.
Thank you for your reply
Regards
Laurie
Hi,
I hope this may be a general question that you may help with.
The message "Host Processes for Windows Stopped working…"and "Windows Installer Services stopped working…" come up at startup and if a program is called to start e.g. Office,
AVG gives a message "General Error" and won't update etc., but this message is being typed on the affected laptop using AVG support to connect to the Internet
Some programs e.g.Pictures work as normal.
System Restore is not working.
The Acer laptop has a Vista Operating System and was having difficulty for a few months with Windows update.
I realize this Question may not be relevant to you, but assistance would be appreciated.
Regards Laurie
Hi Alan and Ranjani,
Thanks for your follow up re my other, very near retirement, laptop.
I think it is now beyond my fixing as it now won’t start after going through the “Startup Repair”.
The message reads “Windows cannot repair this computer automatically”.
The “Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool” says “Hardware problems were detected. To identify and repair contact pc manufacturer”.
All Restore Points are now unavailable.
I am unable to attempt to do the “repair your AVG program avgclick.me/RepairAVG (http://avgclick.me/RepairAVG" target="_blank) and check with the issue. Awaiting your reply, thank you! (from Ranjani (Customer Support) replied to your question at 11:53 AM on 3/8/2017.”
I think the matter is now closed from your point of view, I may try reinstalling another operating system next as a test to check that it is a hardware problem.
Thank you both for your concern.
Regards
Laurie
