How do I eliminate "Checked by AVG ..." messages at the bottoms of all my e-mails?

How do I eliminate the following message from appearing on the bottoms of all my incoming e-mails?  It's annoying.  It says, "Checked by AVG - www.avg.com
Version: 2016.0.7924 / Virus Database: 4664/13463 - Release Date: 11/23/16"

As per instructions I received over the phone from AVG, I went into the Advanced Settings dialogue box and unchecked "Email Scanner notifications".  But that didn't work.  My incoming e-mails still have the same message always appended to them.  What else needs to be done other than uninstalling AVG – which I will do if I have to.
