I just reinstalled AVG free for the first time since I switched elsewhere several years ago. It's very different from what I remember: It used to automatically display the scanning progress when it started the scan, but now it just pops up an alert that it's scanning, and I have to open AVG myself to see what the progress is.
When I open AVG, it displays a window that gives me the option to open 'Antivirus Free', but then the next window only has a button that says 'Scan Now'. If the scan is in progress, it seems to display a note to that effect when I hover over that button, but no way to display the actual progress. If I click on the 'Scan Now' button, it finally opens the progress window, but it also starts another scan, apparently in addition to the one already running (?!).
So my question that I hope someone might be able to help me with is two-fold: Is there a way to set up AVG to always display the progress automatically when it starts a scan? And is there a way to open the progress window when it's not being displayed, without starting an additional scan?
Thanks for any insight.
Coal, Open the AVG User Interface & click on 'Reports' [Top RH corner].

Thanks for the offer, Avinash, but I'm I'm not really interested in any Apps. I don't use multiple devices.
I don't really want to give feedback either. I'm just trying to get the scanning progress to display automatically when the scanning starts.
It seems to be possible to set this for a Shell Extension Scan, but not for a Whole Computer Scan. Can someone explain to me what the difference is between these two scans?

Coal, Or you can use the alternative feedback link in my last posting.

Thank you, Karthikeyan.
So is the Shell Extension Scan an on demand scanner then?
And I guess the answer to my question about having the progress of a Whole Computer Scan displayed automatically is that there is no option for setting it up that way in AVG? If so, I guess I'm going to the feedback link after all.
Coal, This alternative AVG feedback link is also available ( link removed ). AVG Guru
Thank you, Alan.
If I understand it right, that would open the scan once it's already in progress. But isn't there a way to just display the scan progress the moment it starts? AVG used to do this automatically. I really dislike having to click every time, especially since AVG is very slow to respond, especially during a scan.I'd like the option to immediately pause or stop the scan if it's not convenient at the scheduled time, which now is an unnecessarily lengthy task.
The only place I see an option for opening AVG when a scan starts is under 'Shell Extension Scan'. The option is ticked there, but it doesn't open when a scan starts. The default scan is the 'Whole Computer Scan', which is what I want. The 'Shell Extension Scan' seems more limited, so I hesitate choosing it instead (though frankly I have no clue what it actually is, but it makes no sense for it to be equal to, or more thorough than, a 'Whole Computer Scan').
Hello Coal,
Shell extension means integrating the AVG scanning feature into your file manager (Windows Explorer, Total Commander, and many others). It allows you to easily and instantly scan any file or folder in your computer without having to open the AVG interface. However, Whole computer scan needs to be scanned from the AVG Interface and it scans all the files and folders of your computer and it is takes more long time to complete the process.
Thank you
Coal,
Thank you for choosing AVG again. We would like to inform you that there has been many changes in the features and user interface made in the latest version of AVG. The latest free version of AVG comes along with the Zen app (which comes with AVG multidevice programs introduced recently).
With AVG Zen, you can create a free Zen Network that allows you to remotely view the status of AVG apps installed on any of your connected computers and Android™ phones and tablets. You can also add more devices to your Zen Network, install AVG apps on your other computers, phones and tablets, and even invite your family members to join your network.
When you launch AVG icon on your desktop, AVG Zen opens first. Then you must click on Anti Virus free to launch the AVG Anti Virus free app in which you can click 'Reports' to see the scan or update progress.
Should you have any specific feedback about the new AVG program and its interface, kindly share it here http://avgclick.me/AVGfeedback .
