How do I get rid of "Tune up your PC" pop-ups and the like?

I have AVG Free installed, and periodically it'll give me a popup saying "Tune up your PC in 4 easy steps."  I don't want to see these pop-ups.  I installed it to stop viruses, not to nag me about my computer's performance.

I found a way to turn off the "Speed up boot time" pop-ups, which were equally annoying, but I don't know how to get rid of these.

Hi Ben,
What you mean by periodically? You can't disable these pop ups entirely, but they shouldn't be displayed too often.

They aren't displayed very often, but they're still annoying every time they show up.

If I can't disable them completely, I suppose that answers my question.  Though it makes me wonder why I can disable nearly every pop-up except for the annoying ones.
