Roger, do you have a scan scheduled which did not run because your PC is turned off or in sleep mode? Please let us know which AVG product are you using and its version.
Add another user with the same issue. After reading the blogs here it seems AVG hasnt been able to address the issue at hand. As an AVE user for many years I can say this has never been an issue. Not until recently after one of the updates. I believeit is an issue AVG needs to fix and soon and not something a user has to do. Because we didnt cause the issue… It is most frustrating for all AVG users. Keep us happy and fix it. Please.
I am having the same issues as above with AVG not getting disabled through the task manager. I am paying for some but not all of your services. Yet I am having issues that I should not be having if I am paying. I have been using AVG for several years now and I think it is time to move on and have a MUCH better antivirus software and VPN with a different company. Goodbye AVG.
Wouldn't that kill the whole process of AVG? I was asking how to stop only the "start up scan." Usually, there's a separate process to kill for the function but there's just "AvLaunch" on the Startup tab. That's why I asked. Do I get what I want by killing the AvLaunch? It doesn't look so.
Hi
I have logged in as administrator, opened up settings/apps/startup and unchecked the AVG launch component, but AVG still starts a scan on the next boot up.
It seems that every time I start up my pc I have to open AVG and physically stop the scan.
AVG launch component is still enabled in task manager/startup and I am unable to disable it, even though I'm logged in as administrator.
I have checked file compatability and it seems that av launch is being checked againt Win 8, I'm running Win 10.
Is this the problem?
What is going on?
It's putting a heavy load on my PC on every starup. There should be an option to disable the function. Where can I find it?
* AVG untivirus free (ver. 17.9.3040)
* Windows 10
Hello Ken,
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. May I know if you're receiving two options ( AVG untivirus free (ver. 17.9.3040)
and Windows 10) while every computer reboots? If yes, then please share a picture of that screen (you can take a picture using your mobile phone) to assist you further. You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.
Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same problem but I'm running fully paid AVG Internet Security. I have a scheduled scan for 3am every morning, but most mornings the machine isn't up at 3am. So when I turn the machine on, a full scan initiates on its own. I've looked for an option to prevent the scan on startup, but there doesn't seem to be one. What's the answer, besides buy a different anti-virus software?
No fixes for this? Really? I have a higher end PC and the TuneUp feature runs scans every time I turn my computer on in the morning. It takes a good 30+ mins before things are operational. I thought AVG was supposed to be a good overall product but I'm extremely annoyed by this. I get that internet security needs to be enabled from startup, that's fine, but TuneUp does NOT need to run scans at startup. This close to unsubscribing and switching to a less pain-in-the-butt software provider.

I too have this problem. I know that AVG is scanning at startup because when the start up process actually finishes and I click on the AVG tab on the task bar, the AVG box appears with the words "scanning". I cant see a way of stopping it apart from clicking AVG and then manually stopping the scan - the problem then is that I have to confirm that I do NOT want to turn my PC off!

Roger, you have done a great job.
After disabling "enable rootkit scan on system startup", you shouldn't be seeing the scan running automatically.
Earlier, you have mentioned that you tried disabling the AVG services but couldn't succeed.
Sorry for mentioning to enable AVG services as you were not able to disable it.
Keep us informed about the status of AVG scan.
Hi
Im sorry, you will have to walk me through the sequence of events on how to enable avg services - is that the same as the dialogue box where I can update the virus/programme?. My knowledge of Win 10 and AVG is rudimentary.
On the troubleshooting section there is a tick box for "enable rootkit scan on system startup". I have unchecked this.
Hi Hunter,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Do you get any error message when you try to disable the AVG in the task manager?
If any, could you share us the screenshot of it?
Refer this article for the steps : https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Yes, click on "scanning" and check whether you are able to see the scan progress window.
If yes, provide its screenshot.
Thanks.
Hello Mano,
Please accept our apologies. This isn't the experience we wanted you to have with AVG.
To investigate this further, we need the necessary AVG logs from your computer. Hence, we request you to write back to us via your own/new post.
Thank you for understanding.
