Hi Barrie,
We're glad to look into this & help you.
Would you be so kind to let us know how you found that AVG is limiting the NNTP connections. Do you receive any message from AVG regarding it?
If so, share us the screenshot of it for better clarity.
I have attached a screen grab snippet showing the erroro message in the Task Manager part of my usenet program.
I was alerted to this AVG probelm by this NNTP reply to my question <aa3tje5530v7ncb5kvimkb1975t3r6ptjo@4ax.com> in the usenet newsgroup http://news:alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent
Hello Barrie,
My name is Shawn, and I am writing to you on behalf of AVG’s senior support team. First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to write and communicate your concerns.
To stop AVG limiting NNTP connections:
Open Settings - General - Troubleshooting - Open old settings
Components - mailshield - uncheck (NNTP)
I trust this information is useful and helpful.
Best regards,
Shawn
I use usenet a lot and I use Forte's Agent program to acces usenet. I currently need to download a whole ehap of binaries (many GB) and have accounts with several different nes providers as well as NNTP access to my ISP's news server.
But AVG is limiting my access to 50 concurrent connections.
Checking the on-line help at https://help.avg.com/en/avg_free/18/settings_sh_mail_basic.html
Tells me:
""The Main settings screen allows you to specify which type of messages are scanned by Email Protection. All options are enabled by default:
- Inbound (POP3, IMAP4): scans emails you receive.
- Outbound (SMTP): scans emails you send.
- Newsgroup messages (NNTP): scans all communication from news servers.""
- Scan inbound emails
- Scan outbound emails
- Add a signature to outbound emails
- Mark in Subject of mail containing a virus
- Scan attachment when attaching (Outlook only)
Thank you for your help Shawn.
With that eassistance I was able to find the relevant selection - which I actually found in Components > Emai Shield > [ ] Scan newsgroup messages [NNTP]
Once again, many thanx
In my above reply I can see that the link to the nntp newsgroup has had an HTTP fronend put on, and should read news://alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent
or possibly nntp://alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent
One of those shoudl work if you have newsreading capability
nntp://alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent (nntp://alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent" target="_blank)
