How to fix? AVG Protection 'Scan Specific File or Floders' Corrupted NTFS File System on USB drive

I am afraid. AVG cannot corrupt any partition like that. That too on external hard drive. You can try to format the partitions. Note formatting will erase all data from external hard drive.

You can also check by connecting the external hard disk to other computer to make sure whether it is working or not.

Windows Check Disk refueses to check the partitions that were scanned and gives the error that the file system is corrupted, same error with command line scan. The AVG scans didn't find any virus. I had selected the option to scan system files as well.  I tried having an AVG tech solve the problem with AVGs remote admin but he said there was nothing he could do to recover the partitions. I have disconnected the power to that computer ever since and am trying to save enough to buy professional recovery software that I have used in the past on the job.  The drive and all partitions worked perfectly before the scan the partitions that I didn't scan still did even when the AVG tech checked them. I didn't access the partitions with anything other than AVG scan and windows explorer which said it couldn't access the scanned partitions.  The AVG tech had me reboot my system so he could check if it was still not working after the reboot then disconnected from the session without even saying he was leaving. I am very disappointed in that type of 'support'.

I was able to fully access all partitions and files of my USB hard drive. I scanned most of them with AVG and ALL of the ones i scanned were corrupted. The only ones I didn't scan i can still access fine. I tested my disk wit hthe manufacturers tests and all test say it is working fine. just the NTFS file system on the partitions scanned by AVG were corrupted. I am not going to format my drive the files system on those partition can be recovered somehow. I don't think the files themselves have been changed.

I ran AVG Protection 'Scan Specific File or Floders' on an external USD Hard disk drive with several partitions and it corrupted the NTFS file system.

Hello Peter. I really appreciate your efforts. I have escalated this to our technical team and they will communicate and assist you further regarding this. Thank you.

Hi Peter,

This is really strange. Was anything detected by AVG on those partitions? Have you tried running the Windows Check Disk https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd637756.aspx ?

Thanks
