How to remove advertisements

You've reached the AVG community support forum.
We regret the inconvenience this has caused you. To stop receiving ads about other AVG products, please open AVG Internet Security, click Menu > Settings > General > Privacy. Then uncheck "Show offers for other AVG products" and "Show offers for 3rd party products", click OK to save the settings.

Ever since installing AVG, I receive advertisements every time I try to search the web. I did not ask for or was made aware this is part of the AVG program I paid for. Advertisements are very annoying when they randomly pop-up.  
How can I get rid of the advertisements?
