You can turn off your AVG temporarily from your system tray.
Open your system tray by clicking on the arrow key on the bottom right corner of your screen.
Then right click on the AVG icon and turn off your AVG.

I am trying to download a file that goes straight to quarantine. how do I turn off to allow download.
Yes I know what the file is and no, it's not harmful.
The website states that I need to disable windows real time protection, but seeing how AVG is in control, that option doesn't appear in the Virus & threat protection window.
