Hi Christina.
In the Gutmann method, a file is overwritten 35 times per single pass. With the latest technology used in hard drives, one pass is enough to erase the data securely.
By the way, we recommend that older version of AVG PC TuneUp is obsolete and recommend you to upgrade to latest version.

Hello guys,
I hope that you can help me: I use an older version of TuneUp’s "Shredder" app. Now I just want to make sure that I understand the optional settings correct. I want to delete my files safely but I also don't want my PC to spent weeks for that. So:
I have chosen "Gutmann method" which regularly overwrites 35 times.
But then there is the possibility to choose the amount of repetition manually.
My question: When I choose Gutmann and then type in 35 repetitions, does that equals an 1,255 (=35 x 35) overwrite? Or do I have to type in “35” manually to achieve the Gutman standard of 35 overwrites?
If “Gutman” with the manual setting “1” equals 35 overwrites itself, what is in your experience a good setting for the repetitions regarding the cost-benefit ratio between save deletion and time spent for that process? I have a home used PC that I want to resell privately.
Thank you very much in advance for your help!
Christian
My pleasure, Christian.
