I am unable to perform a full scan

Windows, When I now open AVG from my desktop all I get is "You're Protected" and I an unable to access anything else.

I am unable to perform a full scan, what changed?

Please uninstall AVG Free Antivirus completely as per the steps mentioned here . Then reinstall it by following the steps mentioned here . Keep us informed about the status to assist further.

Do you mean the scan is not initiating or does it getting hanged at a particular percentage?
