I cannot run a whole computer scan completely

I bought a AVP internet protection yesterday Order Number 37-4132876. I installed it and try to run a whole computer scan, which I have run many times on the previous version. It scans upto 49% and stops i.e locked the the computer such that I have to pull the plug out and start again.  What is wrong with this version or more to the point what are my doing wrong?
