I cannot see the AVG interface even though it is running

Hi,
 
The repair has been running for around 20minutes now.  How long should it take?

Thank you for contacting us here. We request you to run repair installation of your AVG and check if that helps.
To repair your AVG please follow these instructions:
Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select AVG Protection in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.

Hi,
I can see from taskmanager that AVG is running but I cannot see the icon in my system tray.  Also, I cannot open the interface from any of the desktop icons or menu bar.  I have tried to stop the apparently running instance of the interface from within taskmanager but it will not close.  Any ideas?
