There is an ongoing issue with Password protection feature & the concerned team is already working on it. 
Meanwhile, performing a clean installation using AVG Clear is the workaround provided by them. 
To perform a clean installation, please follow the steps in below articles:
Uninstall AVG using AVG Clear
Install, activate AVG Internet Security
