Hi all,
If you have latest version installed, please provide us with diagnostic output using this tool (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe) and please add detailed description of issue.
Thanks
i'm trying to follow this conversation (?) because the same thing happens to me (more than once). I guess I'm using 4716 - is that bad? good? because I don't think anyone knows what you folks are talking about ("All detections listed in overviews are now linked directly to the online threat encyclopedia for detailed description." - that makes no sense at all). And then I followed then link from alan binch ("bear this is mind") - ondroploteny, apparently thinks that we know what SMB queries are or tech buddy avatars or whatever - well, ok, I'm bearing that in mind. Now can someone please tell me in English what is making these popups happen? Sorry about the sarcasm but this is getting real frustrating.
oh wait that guy was using it case reopened!
You are getting notiications to update because you are using version 4716 but the latest version is 4745, in fact there was another version in between. The popups have a button labeled "Update now." If you are interested in keeping the program up to date, then click on it! Probably yor virus database is up-to-date, however not the program itself.
im scared! it looks legit but i never have seen the red text! can anyone help?

see its the orange text that makes me suspicious and also scared
Noble De los Santos, Have you now updated your AVG to build 4744?. Do you still see the pop-up?.

Noble De los Santos, If 'Update now' isn't working download the latest 4744 install file. Run the file & select 'Repair installation'.

I just got a similar tray notification because I hadn't updated from build 4716 to 4744. It was legit, but interestingly, the text was green. I don't know why your text color was different.
Next time you see that "scary" notification, click "Update now." Or keep scheduled program updates enabled. Or Control Panel - Uninstall a program - AVG - Change - Update.
The tray notifications refer to program updates, whereas clicking "Protection is up-to-date" on the main menu typically only results in a database update. However I clicked for a database update this morning, and somewhat to my surprise the program was updated to build 4745. I keep scheduled program updates disabled these days, so I'm a little annoyed about that.
Noble De los Santos, Just for your info…
