Thanks Alan. Sorry I got it in the wrong place. I didn't find it very clear where to post it. 
Last time I used the forums a couple of years ago, it was all different, and much easier.
But anyway, thanks for pointing out what to do. Appreciated.

Getting the file from the download page, then choosing "Repair" did NOT work for me.

What did work … I totally uninstalled AVG, restarted my computer, then installed that file from the download page per the "Repair" article.  Now all seems fine.

I hope this helps someone.
