I have a 16 bit text editor that I’m running under vDos (https://www.vdos.info/) – works very well until today. I created a batch file called “RunExcl.bat” that I run from this editor to process non-text files (e.g. .doc and .xls files). The batch file has just one command:
start %1
where %1 is the file path, e.g. “C:\......\File.doc”
I ran this batch file a couple of times and it was working fine. Then I ran it again and AVG flagged it as, “We’ve moved runexcl.bat to your Quarantine because it was infected with IDP.Generic”.
Then while I was continuing to trace the problem, AVG flagged, “We’ve moved vDos.exe to your Quarantine because it was infected with IDP.Generic”. I now can’t run my editor because it depends on vDos.
Please advise me on how to recover from this situation. Also, was there anything about the batch file that I should strive to avoid in the future?
Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the file and also there appears to be no .bak file. Can the file be retrieved from the AVG Quarantine and if so, how?
I recall that apart from the “start %1” command it just had some rem statements.
Thank you for writing back to us, Keith.
