Unfortunately, certain banking services have taken counter measures to block their users from accessing their content through Secure VPN servers.
While we do continue to add new servers and ip addresses, they are quite fast to identify the same.
However, you can try connecting to one of the Streaming or P2P servers/locations (preferably London) that are available in Secure VPN & check.
Also, let's enable the Mimic protocol in your AVG Secure VPN & check if the issue persists.
Please follow the below steps to enable Mimic protocol:
Open AVG Secure VPN > Menu > Settings > Experimental > Select Mimic.

Tried to connect to a website which contains my bank details. But the following message came up 'Important Location Notification, looks like you're outside the UK and Isle of Man'. The only way I can access said website is to switch off the VPN which for me totally defeats the object of having it. I am not impressed and think I may have to cancel my subscription.

I have changed the location to UK, Wonderland and the problem remains. I think I may unsubscribe from all the AVG services and the 2 other services I subscribed to later today.
I wish to proceed with the cancellation of all 3 subscriptions. Thank you.

You need to open AVG Secure VPN & click on 'change location' to choose the above mentioned server to connect.
Additionally, you can try the steps in this article to exclude selected servers in AVG Secure VPN.
