Indexing (search) turning off in Economy mode

It is part of advanced settings, you can choose when it should be disabled/enabled.

Since I installed AVG the indexing feature on my computer seems to not be working - even when not in Economy mode. I went to the Indexing menu in Windows and the box to enable indexing can't be checked.  
I can't even search for contacts in my outlook.
Help!
