Hi All,
As seems to be the case with the majority of Virus Protection lately be it paid for or Free 'things' happen which you have no idea of in the background and the next time you fire up your PC the screen that you were hoping to see has flown off into Cyberspace and a new totally unknown 'Gizmo' has appeared in this case it was/is called 'Zen'!
So can someone please tell me WHY I cannot reset my AVG Antivirus to the start screen that allows ME to see if I am up-to-date with my Protection instead of slowing down totally my Start Up while AVG checks and updates itself leaving me totally frustrated as I sit here thinking that the dam PC has 'failed' yet again while in truth it is this software called AVG that is acting like another well known Anti-Virus Package and taking total control of my PC!
P.s. I did actually find the 'controls' that allowed me to set the Update to Manual! WOW!
While then you could say 'All hell broke loose' as the AVG Program nearly got done on bended knee asking me to revert to Automatic Updates!
After due consideration I was tempted to write back saying "Why? You must be joking! I prefer the Control of MY PC rests with me"
But sadly I could not input the text.
Hey Ho!
Cheers.
Hello Gunaseelan,
I am not sure where you have been hiding but the Zen part of AVG has been there for at least 2 years, but it was not as prominent as it is now while definitely now acting like a couple of your competitors in trying to take total control of the item on which it is installed, having said that I was never asked if I wished to have Zen or not in previous versions/years while the Update process was not as demanding as it is now as it stops all activity and use with the PC until it has finished what it is doing while previous versions did not.
A few times now I have been sat in front of my machine (Which is less than 12 months old) wondering what the hell is happening as every thing I try to do does not happen. Then I eventually get a message telling me that AVG has just done 'something' and that was the reason why!
One other point.
I read that if you wish to remove AVG then you can use the AVG Removal Tool.
Sorry to advise but as there are quite a few 'bits' left behind in the form of Folders, Files (That cannot be removed even after using the Task Manager and shutting down the 'Processes' that are running!)
while not forgetting all the AVG Entries in the Registry, I have to say that this 'application' does not work correctly or completely even when disconnected from the Internet.
Hello Ian,
We regret to hear about the inconvenience caused. The new AVG Ant-Virus free 2017 version has been upgraded and added AVG Zen. AVG Zen is an user interface from where we can access and manage all AVG installed devices. It is not possible to install the free version without ZEN interface. The older version of 2015 or 2016 may get installed without Zen interface but the virus definitions were not up to date and you won't be able to have the complete protection without new updates. The new updates will be available only for AVG 2017 versions. Thanks for your understanding, we will certainly look into this. Thank you!
Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance.

Hello Akash,
OK I hope it assists other users of AV in restoring control of their PC to them.
It has certainly worked for me as I have a totally responsive 'System' now.
Gracias, Xie Xie, Obrigardo!
