I understand the inconvenience.
May I know the name of AVG program that you are trying to install and mention whether it is free, trial or paid version?

Does anybody know how to fix this error? I've tried to install 3 times to no avail…

I understand your concern. In this case, you can contact the Avira support and get remover tool for their application. Using which you can completely remove all the old traces of Avira program from your computer.
